KMU International Student Scholarship 2027 in Taiwan

The KMU International Student Scholarship is an institutional scholarship offered by Kaohsiung Medical University, a specialist medical university located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The scholarship is intended to support eligible international students undertaking degree studies at KMU.

For the Spring 2027 intake, KMU is accepting international applications for selected Master’s and PhD programmes. The application period runs from 13 July to 12 October 2026, with enrolment scheduled for February 2027.

KMU's current scholarship rules provide four categories of monthly financial support. For graduate students, the relevant categories are Type A, Type B and Type C, providing monthly stipends of NTD 20,000, NTD 15,000 and NTD 10,000 respectively. The final scholarship category is determined by the relevant department or university review process.

Applicants do not submit a completely separate external scholarship application. The KMU Scholarship Application Form is submitted alongside the university admission application. Scholarship selection is separate from admission, so receiving an offer of admission does not automatically mean an applicant will receive a KMU scholarship.

KMU offers graduate study across areas including medicine, pharmacy, public health, medical laboratory science and biotechnology, toxicology, natural products, medicinal and applied chemistry, life sciences and related health disciplines. Programme availability differs between the Fall and Spring intakes, so applicants should select a programme specifically listed for Spring 2027.

For new Spring 2027 applicants:

• Applicants must qualify as international students under Taiwan's Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan.
• Applicants must apply for and gain admission to an eligible KMU graduate programme.
• Master’s applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from a university or independent college recognised under the applicable rules, or meet equivalent educational-level requirements.
• PhD applicants must hold a Master’s degree or higher from a recognised university or independent college, or meet equivalent educational-level requirements.
• Applicants must satisfy the language requirement of their chosen department or graduate institute.
• Applicants wishing to be considered for the KMU scholarship must submit the scholarship application as part of their admission application.
• Graduate scholarship applicants are subject to the scholarship requirements and review standards established by KMU and the relevant college/department.

For continuing scholarship consideration from the second academic year, graduate students must meet KMU's current renewal requirements, including:

• No failed subjects during the previous academic year.
• An academic average of at least 80 for graduate students.
• A conduct grade of at least 80.
• A recommendation from the student's academic adviser.
• Any additional standards established by the relevant college.

Under KMU's latest scholarship regulations:

• Type A: NTD 20,000 monthly living stipend, totalling NTD 240,000 per year – available to graduate students.
• Type B: NTD 15,000 monthly living stipend, totalling NTD 180,000 per year – available to graduate and undergraduate students.
• Type C: NTD 10,000 monthly living stipend, totalling NTD 120,000 per year – available to graduate and undergraduate students.
• Type D: NTD 5,000 monthly living stipend, totalling NTD 60,000 per year – undergraduate students only.
• Graduate recipients can potentially receive scholarship support for up to 2 years for a Master's degree or 4 years for a PhD, subject to the scholarship regulations and continued eligibility.
• For new students, payment begins from the month in which the student enters Taiwan and completes registration.

Applicants to the Spring 2027 graduate intake generally need to submit:

• Online KMU admission application form.
• KMU Scholarship Application Form if applying for the scholarship.
• Highest-level diploma or appropriate expected-graduation/enrolment certificate.
• Official academic transcripts.
• Financial statement issued within the previous six months showing at least NTD 120,000 / USD 4,000, or qualifying proof of scholarship support.
• Proof of nationality, including a valid passport or nationality certificate and other nationality documentation where applicable.
• Proof of English or Chinese language proficiency according to the chosen programme.
• Study plan in Chinese or English.
• Two recommendation letters in Chinese or English.
• Documents additionally required by the chosen department or graduate institute.
• Recent passport-size photograph.
• Self-Check for Eligibility Verification & Declaration Form.
• Any scholarship-specific supporting documentation required under the current KMU scholarship rules.

For graduate scholarship applicants, KMU's latest institutional scholarship rules also state that the required scholarship materials for new graduate students include approval/consent from the academic adviser or department/institute head.

• Scholarship reviews are conducted according to criteria established by the relevant KMU college.
• Scholarship availability and award amounts are subject to the university's annual scholarship budget.

• Specialised graduate study: KMU offers postgraduate education across medicine, pharmacy, public health, biotechnology, life sciences and related health disciplines.
• English-accessible programmes: Many graduate courses are available in English, although individual programme language requirements differ.
• Master’s and doctoral pathways: Spring 2027 applications are available for selected Master's and PhD programmes.
• Long-term postgraduate support: Eligible scholarship recipients can potentially receive support for up to two years at Master's level and four years at PhD level.
• Combined scholarship application: Applicants can request KMU scholarship consideration during the university admission process rather than applying through a separate external competition.
