Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2027

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) 2027 is a competitive international research programme that gives eligible undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake hands-on research at Canadian academic institutions.

Interns spend 12 consecutive weeks working under the supervision of Canadian university faculty members. Research opportunities span a broad range of disciplines, including science, engineering, mathematics, humanities and social sciences. More than 70 Canadian academic institutions currently participate in the programme.

The programme combines academic research with professional-development activities and international experience. Interns can work alongside professors, graduate students and research associates while gaining exposure to Canada’s research environment.

Applicants choose research projects through the Mitacs Globalink platform. Each applicant must select between 3 and 10 projects, with selections covering at least three different Canadian provinces.

For Pakistani students, the 2027 cycle is particularly accessible. Mitacs states that students from all Pakistani universities may be eligible, the minimum cumulative academic average is 80%, all disciplines are eligible, and no language-proficiency examination is required specifically for Pakistan. Master’s-only students, however, are not eligible under the Pakistan criteria.

• Be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
• Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined undergraduate-Master’s programme at an eligible institution.
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study or meet the applicable country-specific study requirement.
• Have between one and three semesters remaining in the programme as of Fall 2027.
• Meet the minimum academic-grade requirement applicable to the applicant’s country.
• Apply to a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 research projects.
• Select projects from at least three different Canadian provinces.
• Have sufficient written and spoken proficiency in the language of the selected research project, either English and/or French.
• Be available for a 12-consecutive-week internship between 1 May and 31 October 2027.
• Be able to start the internship between 1 May and 31 July 2027.
• Not have previously received a Mitacs Globalink Research Internship project.
• Meet any additional requirements set by the applicant’s country or international partner.

• Official academic transcripts in English and/or French.
• If transcripts are issued in another language, the original documents plus translated and notarised transcripts in the language of the selected project.

• Statement explaining the applicant’s reasons for pursuing research in Canada.
• Passport information where available; successful applicants will need valid passport information later if it is not available at the initial application stage.
