The UNFPA Global Internship Roster 2026 is an official internship opportunity offered by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The internship normally lasts between 8 and 24 weeks. In limited circumstances connected with academic requirements, national service obligations or postgraduate professional traineeships, an internship may be authorised for up to 36 weeks.

Remote internships are permitted under UNFPA policy where appropriate, although not every role is suitable for remote work and the arrangement remains subject to the hiring manager's approval and operational needs.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following educational routes:

• Be enrolled in a first university degree programme, such as a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and have completed one full academic year.
• Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme, such as a Master’s programme or higher.
• Have recently graduated with an eligible university degree and, if selected, begin the internship within one year of graduation.
• Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of that programme.
• Demonstrate an interest in the field of development.
• Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in at least one UN working language: English or French.
• Meet the language requirement of the relevant UNFPA office as stated in the assignment Terms of Reference.
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt to new environments.
• Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.
• Applicants whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a UNFPA staff member are not eligible for a UNFPA internship.

• Monthly stipend: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside organisation, university or government may receive a UNFPA stipend towards living expenses.
• Location-based stipend: The stipend amount depends on the intern's agreed place of work and is normally paid monthly in local currency.
• Partial stipend where applicable: If external support is lower than the UNFPA stipend level, UNFPA policy allows the intern to receive the difference, where applicable.
• Potential travel support: For eligible in-person interns living outside commuting distance, actual round-trip travel costs of up to US$1,000 may be provided, subject to UNFPA policy and the relevant hiring arrangement.
• Direct UN experience: Interns gain practical exposure to UNFPA's work and operational environment.
• Professional supervision: Interns carry out their assignments under UNFPA staff supervision.
