CRG Undergraduate & Master’s Research Fellowships 2026/27 in Spain

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute based in Barcelona, Spain. Its undergraduate and Master’s training opportunities are designed to give motivated students hands-on research experience in an international laboratory environment while developing scientific and transferable skills.

For the 2026/27 academic year, CRG announced 10 funded fellowship opportunities linked to different research projects. Rather than operating as one central internship programme with a single application deadline, students apply directly to the research project that best matches their academic background and interests. Each project remains open until a suitable candidate is selected.

Available research areas include proteomics, regulatory genomics, diabetes research, single-cell genomics, evolutionary biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, systems and synthetic biology, cancer genomics and genomic medicine. Some projects are laboratory-based, while others are computational and may require programming experience in areas such as Python, R, Bash or Linux.

Successful students work within a CRG research group under scientific supervision and gain exposure to modern research methodologies, technologies and CRG’s broader scientific environment.

An important requirement is that selected candidates must remain enrolled in an official undergraduate or MSc programme because a formal agreement must be established between their home university and CRG.

• Applicants must be able to undertake the fellowship during the 2026/27 academic year.
• Relevant academic backgrounds may include biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, physics, mathematics and related disciplines, depending on the project.

• €700 per month gross stipend.
• Funding for up to 4 months.
• Return-travel support of up to €1,000 for non-European flights.
• Return-travel support of up to €400 for European flights.
• Hands-on research experience in an international scientific environment.
• Access to CRG research groups and specialist scientific infrastructure.
• Exposure to seminars, scientific activities and transferable-skills training available within CRG’s research environment.
• Opportunity to develop experimental, computational or bioinformatics skills depending on the selected project.

CRG does not publish one central scoring framework for all 10 fellowships. Selection is project-specific and may consider:
