Detailed Description

The Kectil Program 2027 is a one-year web-based leadership programme hosted by the Malmar Knowles Family Foundation. KECTIL stands for the Knowles Educational and Charitable Trust for International Leadership. The initiative has worked with young leaders from developing countries since 2017.

The programme is designed to identify and develop high-potential young people who want to make a positive contribution to their communities and countries. Its focus is not limited to students studying a particular subject or degree; instead, it looks for young people with demonstrated talent or passion in areas such as leadership, scholarship and innovation.

The 2027 programme is delivered online. Participants, known as Kectil Colleagues, study subjects including authentic leadership, good governance, mental health, personal finance, entrepreneurship, peace and programme reflection. Participants are also encouraged to apply what they learn through community projects and practical activities.

Kectil also provides access to an international youth network. The official 2027 application page states that more than 14,000 youth leaders across 100+ countries have been accepted into the programme over its history. Participants can interact through programme activities, online communities and other Kectil initiatives.

The programme is free for accepted applicants and fully supported by the Malmar Knowles Family Foundation. This means there is no tuition or programme fee for the online year. It should not, however, be presented as a cash-funded scholarship: the official site does not promise a stipend, travel allowance or accommodation for completing the online programme.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Be primarily within the 17–26 age range. The main eligibility page identifies this as the target age group.
  • Live in a least developed or developing country and intend to serve their community and country.

  • Be proficient in English, as the programme is conducted in English and involves writing, collaboration and webcasts.
  • Have access to a computer and the internet to participate in the web-based programme.
